The Sunday Mazel: A Couple of Nice Jewish Kids in The Bronx

Sometimes we hear about weddings that we’re jealous we can’t attend, and other times we write about massive celebrations.

This week the Sunday Mazel goes out to Jordan Cuttler Katz and David Bahar.  The couple are tying the knot at the New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx, and they really seem like the kind of couple you’d be glad to know.

Also, there is a small twist: Mr. Bahar is deaf, and Ms. Katz isn’t, but they met while she was receiving her  master’s degree in deaf education.

“I just thought he was really cute, so I went up to him at the bar, and we started talking in sign language,” she said. “We hit it off right away.”

Mr. Bahar was beyond surprised.

“There were many people in the room signing and chatting, and she came up to me and introduced herself to me,” he recalled in an e-mail message. “I remember thinking she was very beautiful and being so impressed she had the confidence to just go up and start a conversation with a stranger. A few days later, I took her on a night tour of the monuments in Washington.”

David is a smart man.  He knows that a “night tour of the monuments of Washington” gets them every time.

Mazel Tov!
