Synagogue Accessibility

Representatives of Washington Society of Jewish Deaf (WSJD) shared tips on “how to create a “Deaf Friendly Synagogue” with the Inclusion Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington (JFGW).
During this meeting, three critical issues were identified:

* lack of available and qualified interpreters for Shabbat, life cycle events, and holiday services

* need for Deaf Awareness training for synagogue staff

* ways synagogues can fund interpreters

This dialogue will continue as the JFGW and WSJD work together to develop an action plan to address these concerns. If you have input to share, contact Susan Cohen and Liz Katz, at [email protected].
