Mention Jewish and Deaf in the Washington Metropolitan Area and you will hear Steve Brenner’s name. Steve has been a motivating and respected leader of the Greater Washington Jewish deaf community for more than forty years. He founded the Washington Society of Jewish Deaf in 1972 and has served as its president since 1990.

Steve has a very interesting life story to tell. Born deaf in Boston, he attended the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for “a very short time.” Bored with the “deaf school”, Steve’s teachers encouraged his parents to let him follow his bent and try a regular elementary school.
