A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a major event in the life of a 13-year-old, and is an accomplishment joyfully shared by the individual, the family and the community.
On June 18, for the first time at the Conservative Synagogue of Westport Weston and Wilton, celebrants who are hearing impaired or deaf will be able to participate fully in Saturday morning services because of the presence of two sign language interpreters, Naomi Brunnlehrman and E.J.Cohen. The interpreters will translate both the English and the Hebrew portions of the entire service into sign language, and in so doing, provide for a much more meaningful experience for the Zegers family of Westport and for all who come to take advantage of the sign language interpretation offered.
The impetus for the opportunity came from the family of Bar Mitzvah student Max Zegers, whose parents, Melissa Katz-Zegers and Mike Zegers live in Weston.
