The Washington Society of Jewish Deaf (WSJD) is forming a Caring Committee (CC) to offer support to the community during times of difficulties. The CC is a group of nonprofessional volunteers who cannot offer counseling (physical or mental health) or any medical advice but may refer members to people who can help.
Volunteers are the heart of the CC. This is a new committee and a work in progress. Per volunteer availability, the Caring Committee may support in the following ways:
Bereavement
Notify WSJD members of the passing of a person (with approval from deceased family) via WSJD email distribution list.
CC may be in touch with the family and offer assistance when needed. CC may send condolence notes.
Meals
CC may provide a prepared meal for a member of the community who is home bound due to illness or physical injury.
Physical Presence
CC may offer companionship.
Transportation
CC may offer rides to people in need.
Errands
CC may run general kinds of errands (i.e., groceries, dry cleaning, etc).
Life Cycle
CC may send congratulatory cards for happy Life Cycle events (i.e., birth, marriage, retirement).
How To Contact The CC
If you wish to volunteer for the CC, request support for yourself, or inform the CC of a person/family in need, or for any other reason, send an email to [email protected].
