The first cruise ship Marlee Matlin spent a night on was the one she became godmother of. In late February, the Oscar-winning actress christened Holland America Line’s (HAL) newest ship, the Noordam, during a ceremony in New York.

Marlee praised everything from the food to the open captions on her in-cabin television.

It was all new to Matlin, but it won’t be to HAL’s repeat guests, as the line has taken pains to give its newest ship some familiar touches.

“It’s a very consistent product,” said Richard Meadows, senior vice president of marketing and sales, of the 12 ships Fincantieri has made for HAL. “Each time it gets better, but the 12 ships have a Holland America feeling and design.”

Meadows said repeat guests want to see familiar touches.
