Hila Almog wrote a book “about the story of a deaf girl’s experiences in a listening environment – from here I tell myself. I am an aura, a sign language teacher, a writer and a mother of lovely children.”
Hila explains, “Many years ago, when I was a kid, I attended a hearing class and I was deaf, They did not understand me, they laughed at me, laughed at my different voice, laughed at me with my hands, they did not know my language, sign language, I could not resist crying and managed to stand it and show them that I was strong that I can cope and really I fought And today I realized a lot of dreams.
“Today I am a mother, when my eldest daughter Noga went to first grade, one day she went to school and went back home She, sad and hurt, asked her what happened, she told me that the kids laughed at her mother who did not know how to talk and that brought me back. I decided that something had to be done, I came to Noga’s class, introduced myself, told the children who I was, Noga’s mother and I were a woman. Deaf and the kids were in the market, they didn’t know the deaf and didn’t know that deaf people could do anything but hear. Because of this experience, I decided to write the book “The Voice of Poetry.” A story I wrote inspired by my experiences as a deaf child.
“Two years ago, I decided to write a book, and I invited a hearing linguist to review the texts and invited a deaf illustrator – I encourage the world to hear that there are talented deaf people. And I published a book a year and 4 months ago and to this day I give lectures, story time to each family and sign language workshops. I am happy that I have conveyed such an important message and helped many people and open doors for them … Thank you very much for asking questions or anything I am always happy to answer here. Happy Passover! Hila
