From the newsroom of the Inside Gallaudet (Gallaudet University), Washington, D.C., Wednesday, December 19, 2007 …..
Star of David The fall and winter seasons are packed with Jewish holidays of reflection and celebration, including the high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, as well as Sukkot and Hanukkah. Needless to say, Gallaudet’s chapter of Hillel, an international Jewish student organization, has been busy.
For Jewish students, the first semester can be an overwhelming time but also holds the possibility for enriching new experiences. In addition to adjusting to college life, they are confronted with celebrating the familiar holidays in a new place for the first time, or figuring out how to juggle classes and going home to observe the holidays with family. However, with Hillel at Gallaudet, students can explore their Jewish identity in a way they never have before.
