Kathryn Johnson of the Playwrights Project, Los Angeles, CA office has announced that their play, ‘Napkins and A Pen’ written by Nick Hamlin and directed by Charles Katz, has been performing at schools in Los Angeles and San Diego, California from February 22nd to March 12th. This play, winner of the 1996 California Young Playwrights Contest, is a “delicate yet humorous play telling the story of a friendship between a hearing boy and a deaf girl. Approached from the perspectives of both the Deaf and hearing worlds, the production uses voice-overs and sign interpreters to reach all audiences. Written by a 17 year old deaf playwright, the play was originally produced at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Starring in the play is Rachel M. Postovoit who performs with Erin Oleson at San Diego venues and with Tali Dagan in the Los Angeles area. Playwrights Project is a non-profit educational arts organization dedicated to the development of young writers for stage and film, and to helping build audiences by producing theatre of quality.
