The Board of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC) elected Dr. Martin Florsheim of Henderson as new chair starting July 1, 2010. The board also elected 2 individuals as new members, Corrie Herrera of Elko and Jana Spoor of Sparks. Theresa Piccinini and Jack Mayes are re-elected respectively.
The board works together to focus on the quality of existing services and develop new services to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in this great State of Nevada during the fiscal year of 2011. Town hall meetings were held during the fiscal year of 2010 to identify issues raised by the communities. With the support of the Board, Executive Director Edina Jambor will be responsible for identifying and developing grants and contracts with various agencies.
The Las Vegas Office will be relocated to a new site this summer. The new location is bigger and better to provide an array of services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the Las Vegas Valley.
The mission of the DHHARC is to educate and empower deaf and hard of hearing Nevadans, both in rural and urban areas across the State, so they can achieve self-independence. We continually work with agencies, organizations, legislature and members of the community through outreach, community building and advocacy to ensure equal access to communication for all deaf and hard of hearing Nevadans. DHHARC also operates Camp Signshine and Communication Arts Camp for deaf and hard of hearing children and hearing children of deaf/hard of hearing adults (CODAs).
