Chanukkah Study – ASL Interpreted: NYC, 12/19

uja_NYCASL INTERPRETED Beit Midrash: Chanukkah Study Session

Rabbi Michael Paley, Pearl and Ira Meyer scholar-in-residence at UJA-Federation of New York will lead a discussion ASL Interpreted.

Miracles & Revolution: Why do we light the Chanukah candles?

Eight to one or one to eight? Truth or fantasy? Re-dedication or moving on? Hillel or Shammai? The mishna has precious little on the festival of Chanukah, so we will be able to learn it all and answer these questions. No Jewish holiday is more dedicated to masking the real story than Chanukah and we will pierce this legend. Our session will try to spin through the serious debates that the early rabbis had around this historical holiday. Come with an empty stomach, sufganiyot (jelly donuts) will be served.
