We did it! JDCC turned five on June 8th! I want to thank Jeff Dichter for an outstanding job as our Master of Ceremony! He did a brilliant job of putting together the history of JDCC. You can read all about the Banquet in this issue. We raised over $3,100.
I want to thank you all for your support during my mom’s last days – she passed away peacefully on June 17th. She will be sorely missed by those of us who had the privilege of being her guests during the Holidays including Shabbat, Passover, and High Holidays. A Phyliss Dror Jewish Education Fund has been established in her honor. This fund will be for programs related to Jewish Education, Sunday School, Religious School, Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, Hebrew classes, programs for both children and adults. My mom was a strong believer in maintaining Jewish households and wants all Jewish Deaf people to get as much exposure to Judaism as possible. See page 15 for more details.
The High Holidays Committee is looking for people who are interested in serving on this committee. Rosh Hashana services will be on October 2nd, Thursday morning, and Yom Kippur will be on Saturday, October 11th.
JDCC is honored to be a recipient of a grant from Steven Spielberg’s Righteous Persons Foundation to underwrite costs of national distribution of JDCC News.
JDCC welcomes Rabbi Rebecca Dubowe and her family back to Los Angeles, Rabbi Dubowe will be working at Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks as part time Associate Rabbi, and Temple Israel of Hollywood. We wish her and the family the very best of luck and look forward to having her lead some activities for JDCC, such as Hebrew classes, Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, tutoring, etc. If there is a subject you are interested in, please let JDCC know and we will try our best to arrange it.
Have a great summer!

Dear Sharon,
I wanted to drop you a note and formalize all the many positive comments on the 5th Anniversary of the Jewish Deaf Community Center (JDCC) event held at Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverly Hills on June 8th. We all feel it was important for all of us to let JDCC banquet committee members to be aware it was an extraordinary fun event. The arrangements were absolutely fantastic, the entertainment (A KOSHER AFFAIR) superb and the food for in excess of 80 plus people was beyond our wildest expectation. You and your organization are to be commended for not only fulfilling all of JDCC goals and objectives, but also for doing so in a way that demonstrated real understanding of what you are trying to accomplish and a real interest in JDCC. The professionalism that you exhibited during the whole course of the planning, arrangements and actual activity of the party was at the highest level.
I must congratulate Jeff Dichter, the Master of Ceremony, did a spectacular job well done, and feel that ninety nine and nine tenth of them have agreed that it was the cleverest and most innovative signing event in the last ten years in Los Angeles. It would have never happened without him – from his creative thinking to his hard driving creative execution; every detail was handled brilliantly.
I wish only the best for you and JDCC in the near future. Thank you so much for making a special party on behalf of everyone and me! My very best regards.

Dear Sharon,
I am really thrilled that you “found” us again. Because we are the only deaf Jews here in Fairhope, Alabama, I’m not sure if we would have known about your wonderful newsletter –JDCC News! It keeps us in touch with the happenings of the Deaf Jewish Community. In a way, it really helps reduce some of that isolating feeling we do sometimes experience. Every issue received only seems to get more newsy. I really enjoy the stories of different Deaf Jews and their roles! If you ever need a profile or a story, I would be happy to contribute. Keep up the great work you are doing. Shalom!
Joy (Holtzman) & Shaul Antar – Fairhope, AL
