September was a busy month for JDCC with their Rosh Hashana services and Building a Sukkah party which was held at my house on September 30th. It was so much fun! Mistie Collette Shaar, is doing her internship with JDCC for part of her CSUN requirement. It is great having her with us.
If you have any field work or community service work that you need to complete, JDCC welcomes your participation and assistance with the ongoing community outreach projects.
JDCC celebrates its tenth anniversary next June. A 10th anniversary Banquet Committee will be formed shortly. Please contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in serving on the committee. We have not yet decided a June date yet, but it would be helpful to know of any other events in June to avoid schedule conflicts.
JDCC is now seeking locations to host our Community Seder, it has not been an easy task finding one for the First Evening. Either they are closed for the week of Passover, or they are hosting their Community Seders on the First Evening, or prices are too steep so we will keep you posted in the next issue.
JDCC hopes you will stop by our booth during Deaf Expo 2001 at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA on November 16th.
Wishing you all a very Happy Chanukah!
JDCC Five Year Calendar:
There is a date error for Shemini Atzeret 2002 and 2004. September 28-29. 2002. October 2-3, 2004 JDCC apologizes for any confusion.
Dear Ira,
WOW! The article your wrote about Tanya Towers is BEAUTIFUL. Oh I wish you had mentioned us being from Vienna, Austria immigrating to the USA because of the Nazis in 1940. My best wish for the upcoming holidays to you and your family. Shalom.

Dear Sharon,
When I read the “JDCC News”, I have enjoyed the whole news. Thanks to the person who sent it to me. Ira Rothenberg had written a lovely article about “Tanya Towers”. I shall share it with my children which they’d appreciate.

Dear Sir or Madam,
My Granite Company has been commissioned by a fam ily to create their monument. They really like the carving located on Jewish Funeral and Mourning Customs. The design has 2 Lions on each side of the Arch of the Covenant with a Crown above. I was wondering if you could assist me in getting a larger copy of that Photo! I need this so that I can reproduce on their monument. Thank you for your help.

Dear cousin Harold Levy,
Thank so much for thinking of me and making a nice do nation to the Jewish Deaf Community Center. My bat mitzvah was the very first one in our new building. It went pretty well, but I was nervous. Thank you again.

Dear Everyone;
I enjoyed helping to organized the service last year. It brought me great the most important part of the year and I hope you had a good time. I know I did! I hope to see you all again next year as well.
I am deeply grateful for the work and help by Brenda Winter, Jenny Coffin, Jeff Lubman, Jeff Dichter, Sharon Dror, David Rosenbaum and my wife Jana. They de served much of the credit as without their support, it would have been difficult.
I, without any doubt, will start planning for the next two years and hope to get more people on the Rosh Hashana/Yom Kipper planning committee to help next year. If you or know anyone who is interested in leading a part of the service or even the whole service, want to blow the shofar, add or change a prayer in the JDCC prayer book, want to volunteer with planning, building, clean up, food, etc. If we have more volunteers, we can explore having both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipper next year. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity for anyone to contribute some time, make new friends, and enjoy helping to welcome the new year.
