Letters to the Editor

editorDear Readers,

Congratulations to David Rosenbaum on a successful tenth Deaf Expo show! JDCC will not have a booth this year so we all can browse through and meet our friends. It will be held on November 15 and 16 at Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California.

Chanukah is so early this year, it begins the day after Thanksgiving, November 29th!

JDCC/TBS SEDER IN 2003?
Temple Beth Solomon for the Deaf president Joe Slotnick has announced that they have dissolved their Seder committee and are suspending their own community seder plans for 2003. Instead they will encourage TBS members to attend the JDCC Multimedia Community Seder in 2003. They have decided not to make it a joint endeavor. They say they will get feedback on what they’d like to do in 2004. JDCC thanks both JDCC and TBS committee members for their efforts and time in getting the talks started. I hope to see you at the JDCC Community Seder which will be held on Thursday evening, April 17, 2003. If you are interested in serving on the 2003 Passover Committee, send email to JDCCNewsCc3aol.com and let us know what you would like to do.

We are seeking candidates to become the next editor of this JDCC News publication. If you are interested, please contact us at [email protected]

See you next issue!

Happy New Year!!

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a 17 year old high school senior at a yeshiva in New Jersey. I live in Westchester. I am very interested in the deaf community and I have taken a sign language course because I would like to be involved and work with the deaf. I hope to take the second ASL this coming semester as well.

I am writing to you because I am interested in finding a volunteer position within the deaf community. During the spring semester I will have Friday’s off from school, this is to allow us time to do our chosen volunteer work. Do you know of any volunteer work that I might be able to do through your organization? If it is in the Westchester area that would be great but I am close to Riverdale in the Bronx and other parts of New York.

You can contact me at (914) 713 0250 or at this email site MRHOCH@ AOL.com. Thank for your time

Hi,

I am currently a graduate student at Gallaudet University and working on a special project. I would like to have one of you to assist me to find some history on Deaf people during Old Testament era, such as What did Deaf people do, what were people’s attitude toward Deaf people, had there any academic provided for Deaf people, etc. Hopefully I can obtain some information in order to expand knowledge on Jewish Deaf History as well for Deaf Studies for Gallaudet University. Thanks.

EDITING ERROR IN LAST ISSUE
The first paragraph on page four of article ‘JDCC Rosh Hashana Holiday’ written by Ira Rothenberg was not printed in its entirety. It should have read:

“A few individuals who were present were asked to reflect their experience with JDCC Rosh Hashanah services. Mark Corson appreciates the simplicity and the length of services which he felt was kept to a minimum yet retaining some measures of tradition, the gathering and access to communication.”
