The Jewish Deaf Community Center (JDCC) recognizes the Black community’s fight for racial justice and we want to support their efforts to dismantle systemic racism.

The Jewish Deaf Community Center (JDCC) stands with the Black Lives Matter movement. We denounce all forms of racism and violence against Black people. More than 50% of people killed by police have some kind of disability so the Black Deaf community faces an even higher risk. Instead of only talking about the struggles that the Black Deaf community faces, we want to take action.

We invite you to join us in making a difference by donating $18 to be split equally between two organizations: Black Deaf Center, and National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA).

Eighteen is the numerical value of the Hebrew word “chai” which means “life”. In the Jewish community, it is a Jewish custom to give monetary gifts in increments of 18, thus symbolically blessing the recipient of the gift with a long good life.

We will donate all the proceeds to the two organizations on July 18, 2020. Please make your donations before that date at jdcc.org/donation-form/

OUR THANKS TO: Abigail Longo for initiating this “18 Chai project for Black Lives Matter”, and Rachel Soudakoff for filming and captioning the announcement video.
