Steve Brenner with Washington Society of Jewish Deaf (WSJD) announced that a mezzuzah presentation ceremony was held at House #1, the home on campus of Gallaudet University president T. Alan Hurwitz on June 13th.
Jeff Cohen was master of ceremonies. Al Sonnenstral explained that a group of 24 tourists traveling with travel agent Efrat Dvir to Israel last fall purchased the mezzuzah in Safed, Israel.
Efrat Dvir gave an inspired speech on the meaning of mezzuzah.
Rabbi Darby Leigh conducted the religious service for installing the mezzuzah. Representatives of the group also presented Hurwitz with a framed picture with their signatures around a group photo at the Western Wall.
