Jewish Deaf Congress hosted a “L’Chaim Grand Opening” livestreaming event on Saturday, September 18 on its Facebook Page and YouTube accounts.
Michelle Lapides and Jacob Salem were Master of Ceremonies, and Dr. E. Lynn Jacobowitz gave a Jewish comedy performance. Roz Rosen, JDC Chair and Sofia Seitchik, JDC Program Director also gave presentations. Seitchik announced their new “L’Chaim ASL Jewish Learning” program with opportunities to hear from native signers, different presenters including Rabbis.
L’Chaim ASL Jewish Learning would include lectures, panel discussions, and 6-week course on different topics such as Jewish humor, Torah studies, Antisemitism, Jewish history and social justice. They also plan events including life cycles and Hanukkah and to include individuals, youth, adults and general public. She also announced monthly Havurot circles on zoom and a private Facebook group including networking for singles, maybe making challah together on zoom, and Jewish expression through art.

JDC announced membership drive to raise money to cover their services and presentations, learning resources, interpreters, captions, online, visuals and editing. Annual membership fee of $180 or $250 a year for couples and family of up to 5 people.
The event also included Jewish Deaf That! Chat and Jewish Comedy performances. The co-Master of Ceremonies say the areas with denser Jewish Deaf population are Washington DC, New Jersey, New York City, California and Maryland.
