Introduction to Judaism Online Taught in ASL

Introduction to Judaism online taught in ASL is a weekly 21-session class taught exclusively in American Sign Language for Deaf students over videoconferencing. Class size is limited to 12 students.

Join Rabbi Rebecca Dubowe for this engaging, online course for Deaf adults who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish life through a Reform lens.

This course is designed for interfaith couples, adults raising Jewish children, spiritual seekers, individuals considering conversion, and Jews who want a meaningful adult learning experience. The course is suitable for individuals and couples from Jewish and other faith traditions and cultural backgrounds, and those who have had no religious upbringing. Topics include holidays, life cycle, theology and core beliefs, simple Hebrew vocabulary, prayer, Bible, history, Holocaust, Modern Israel, the American Jewish experience, and the tapestry of the Jewish people today.

Introduction to Judaism online in ASL requires participants to be present for live-session weekly classes offered through videoconferencing. The course will include shared media, small-group discussion, and is supplemented by resources, readings, and videos with captions. Participation requires a webcam, high-speed internet access, and a computer.

Class meets on Mondays, 8 p.m. ET to 9:30 p.m. ET every week, from February 8-June 23, 2021.
