Harvey Corson appointed Executive Director at PSAD

PSAD is pleased to announce that Dr. Harvey J. Corson has graciously agreed to work part time for us as our Executive Director. He brings a wealth of experience with him to Pennsylvania. He sees this as his way of giving back to the PA Deaf Community where he was raised and educated. We are looking forward to have him back to Pennsylvania once again.

Dr. Corson has held these important positions over the years: Executive Director of the American School of the Deaf Superintendent of the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Senior Vice President & Professor of Education. at Gallaudet University, and Superintendent of the Louisiana School for the Deaf He has an Ed. D. degree in Special Education majoring in Deaf Education with minors in Educational Administration and Educational Research from University of Cincinnati, MA. Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from California State University at Northridge, M.S. Degree in Education of the Deaf from Gallaudet University, B.A. Degree in Economics and Education from Gallaudet University, and a High School Certificate from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD).

He also has been active with Deaf Community at the national, state and local 1evels. He was the Chairperson of the Bylaws Committee at our 2015 PSAD Conference. He had served as Chairman of the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf, Vice President of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Board member of the Kentucky Home Fund, and President of the Connecticut Association of the Deaf (CAD). At present, he serves as Board Chair of National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) and Board member of the PSD Board of Trustees. He has received honors and awards for his service and dedication.

His current activities and advocacy include Co-Chair of the CAD Education & Legislative Committee, Team member of the Connecticut Coalition for Education of Children who are Deaf & Hard Of Hearing, Member of the, CRID Task Force on Updating Interpreting Standards, Board member of the CT State Board of Protection & Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (appointed by Governor, and Board member of the Deaf& Hard of Hearing Services Advisory Board under the CT State Department of Rehabilitation Services (appointed by Governor).

Dr. Harvey Corson will begin working for us once he and his wife, Mary Ann, find a place to live in Pennsylvania sometime in late January or early February. They are actively searching for a place in Philadelphia area.
