Herbert Morris Fradin (1929-2010), passed away at the age of 80 at his home in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Monday, August 2, 2010, from natural causes.
Herbert was born on August 11, 1929 in New York to William Fradin and Pearl Reichman Fradin. He was predeceased by his two siblings, Milton and Helen and survived by his nieces, Susan Schwartz Bonaventura of Florida and Elizabeth Schwartz Pearsall of NY and nephew, Dr. William Schwartz of Illinois. He was also loved by many friends from far and near.
He received his education at the New York School for the Deaf at Fanwood. Shortly after graduation, he was employed by American Express in NY, and then Florida, for 38 years until his retirement. He was very active in the deaf and gay communities. In 1977, Herb was a co- founder and the first President of the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf which he envisioned, and today continues to exist as a vibrant organization for deaf gays. He was also a member of various deaf organizations.
Traveling was among his passions. Herb traveled to more than 50 countries in his lifetime and made many friends, with whom he continued to keep in touch. Herb also traveled to all of the 50 states, with Alaska being the last state he visited in 2008.
Herb was also a collector of fine art and Wedgwood, and was a member of the Wedgwood Society.
Donations in memory of Herbert Fradin may be made to Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf or New York School for the Deaf at Fanwood.
In loving memory of Herb, a celebration of life service will be held in November in South Florida. Herb will be interred in King Solomon Memorial Park in Clifton, New Jersey.
