* Rabbi Solomon David Goldberg, 88, Clarksville, MD, March 15, 2019
Rabbi Solomon David GoldbergFrom son Hillel Goldberg: My mother, Debra, and I witnessed my father pass away peacefully on a special day, The Sabbath, as he got his wish. He had a wonderful 88 years.

He was very devoted and spiritual about his Judaism. He was ethical, loved to educate others especially on Judaism, friendly, an easy person to talk with, family oriented, and committed to his job. He was very serious and professional.

He set a positive example about the importance of Judaism to our family; as a result, my brother, Dov Goldberg is a Rabbi at Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson, New Jersey, my young brother, Ari Goldberg is Executive Director at Congregation Agudas Achim in Columbus, Ohio, and I am actively involved with the Washington Society of Jewish Deaf, such as being a Lay Leader for High Holiday and Bar Mitzvahs.

One of several happy Jewish accomplishments included the many hours he had prepared me for my Bar Mitzvah. He started to cry and pretty soon the entire congregation was in tears on September 4, 1971. He performed and blessed our wedding ceremony at his synagogue on August 1, 1999.

Debra and I were very fortunate that my parents stayed at my place for 13 months. We had plenty of cherished fond memories, spent quality time with my father for every Friday Sabbath dinner, and performed Havdalah to mark the end of the Sabbath every Saturday evening (we always hug each other at the end of Havdalah).

Buried in Rutland Jewish Cemetery in Vermont where he was Rabbi for 42 years. Source: Hillel Goldberg
