Our Deepest Sympathies:
* Rick Alan Reiss, 66, Los Angeles, CA
Rick Reiss, born September 7, 1952 in the San Fernando Valley, a resident of Los Angeles County, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2019. Although a very long 20-year battle fighting a pituitary tumor took Rick’s life, it never took away his zest for life or hindered his very entrepreneurial spirit. Rick’s favorite line was “I am a survivor.”
Reiss was born profoundly hard of hearing, never letting his condition get in the way of his love for life, family, friends and business. He loved his Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. At a time when only TTY was available for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, Rick conjured up, “Deaf Disco.” For over 2 decades, Rick promoted Deaf and Hard of Hearing dance parties all over Southern CA. He felt his parties not only brought fun and exciting places to gather, but were often the result of many lifelong relationships and marriages.
In 1989, Rick was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Taylor. In 1995, Rick married Silvia and together built a wonderful life for many years. Rick was a very driven and hard working man. His entrepreneurial spirit lent to growing and running a very successful franchise that he was proud of. He is survived by his wife Silvia, daughter Taylor (Colin), sisters Judi and Eileen (Kenny), nephews Jeff (Yanti) and Andy (Claudette), nieces Maegan (Kevin), Amy (Brad) and Emily Rose, grandnephews Carter, Wes and Ari, grandnieces Ava, Chloe, Mia, Reiss and Brooke, and Taylor’s mom Stephanie. Rick will be missed by all who loved him. Source: Los Angeles Times
