Temple Beth Solomon, a deaf-operated temple using facilities at Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, is facing issues due to its aging population and lack of participation by young generation of Jewish Deaf people.
In his president’s report in “The Congregation News” newsletter, TBS president Joe Slotnick says “At our next Board of Directors meeting we will be discussing new ways of serving our congregation. With an aging population it is not easy for many of our members to make it to Shabbat services so attendance is dwindling, but Rabbi Deborah has some ideas for some innovative programming. We have to change with the times and the needs of our congregation and we are talking about reducing our Shabbat services to once a month and would like your input on this. In addition to one Shabbat service a month we could plan other kinds of event several times a year, but we need your ideas so we can include them in our discussion at the Board meeting.”
