JDMM: Parshas Yisro video

ParshasYisroParshas Yisro, another new weekly video from Jewish Deaf Multimedia (JDMM) marks a very important event in the history of the Jews: the receiving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai. Amidst the trembling and lightning, G-d’s voice spoke out: “I am G-d, your G-d . . .” These are the opening words of the Ten Commandments.

We have a tradition in Judaism that our forefathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all observed the Torah, even before it was given. If so, what did the receiving of the Torah accomplish? Why did we make a big deal about a gift that was already revealed to humans before?

Another issue raised in the video is the fact that the phrase “Ten Commandments” is actually a mistranslation.
