After moving back to Israel with his complete family, Jacob is ready to settle down (thus the name of the parsha, “Vayeshev,” which means “he sat/settled”).
Unfortunately, G-d had other plans for him; his second-youngest son Joseph suddenly disappears. He was sold as a slave and sent down to Egypt. However, Jacob doesn’t know this part – his sons instead tell him that Joseph is dead.
Meanwhile, Joseph finds himself in an Egyptian jail, accused of a false crime. But he does not despair, and after several years, he becomes the ruler of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. What was his secret?
