TIPS On Cleaning Menorahs

menorah-1STERLING SILVER: Soak the menorah in a combination of equal parts ammonia, soap and water. Rinse and dry completely. Polish and let dry. Ammonia is good for the silver and storing the menorah in plastic will keep it from tarnishing. OR pour boiling water over the entire menorah, then wipe with a tissue to gather the remaining oil, Dry, polish and store as above.

GLASS: Place a cloth at the bottom of your sink. Fill the sink with a mixture of water and ammonia and let it soak. Then rinse well, dry and store. The glass will shine!

BRASS: Soak brass in a mixture of vinegar and water to break up the oil. Or you can purchase a brass cleaner which is sold at finer hardware stores. When you apply the cleaner to the brass, the menorah will turn oily and black but don’t worry. It will rinse off beautifully and the brass will look brand new.

REMOVING CANDLE WAX DRIPPINGS OFF WOOD OR CERAMIC: Take out your handy blow dryer. Blow the heat over the wax until it becomes soft, then wipe off with a hearty paper towel. (No more digging out with a knife and possibly scratching the menorah.)
