HI COLLECTIONS was formed in 1987. It stands for HlIbok and RothscHIld – the only two common letters in this HI quality partnership. The purpose of this concept is to help and encourage people to become familiar with Deaf Culture through Deaf-related collectibles.
Items such as World-wide HI quality Deaf-related philatelic (stamps), numismatic (coins and paper money), figurines, art prints and other collectibles are in our ever-changing inventory.
The Republic of Texas $5.00 bank note featuring Deaf Smith is one of the most sough item requested by our customers. We are on the constant look out for this item, and when procured, will be offered to our customers who are on our waiting list. We just got and sold immediately two $1.00 North Carolina bank notes printed in 1861 at the North Carolina Institute for the Deaf and Dumb. Some items are hard to get at times, so it is a matter of supply and demand. On the figurine side, the Marie Osmond “I Love You” doll is not easy to locate.
The “Homage to the Deaf” stamp issued by Brazil on December 1, 1982 was done by a hearing Jewish artist, Sigi Tempel. There is a 1956 Israeli postmark cancellation quoting “HELP US BUILD THE HELEN KELLER HOME. ORGANISATION OF THE DEAF-MUTES IN ISRAEL”. Other Jewish Deaf collectibles include the 1958 Israeli pictorial cancellation commemorating the inauguration of the Helen Keller Home as well as the 1977 Israeli postmark commemorating the WOJD convention held in Israel.
I have traveled to present slide show on this unique form of Deaf stamp collectible area. You do not have to be a stamp collector to enjoy the show. Just an interested Deaf Culture lover and you will be amazed by the materials presented in this show.
Future plans is all dependent on the ability to get the older items and the demand of the customers who would like to have these items. At present, there is an established waiting list for older items as they are located and new clients to get items to get started.
