Rafael Pinchas reports “The first ever Deaflympics champion from Israel in any sport – a chess player Yehuda Gruenfeld with me as a chairman-founder of the Israeli Deaf Chess Council (I am holding his gold medal) and Alexander Pinhasov, my Vice President and Gruenfeld’s assistant, at the chess venue of the 19th Winter Deaflympics in Italy last night.
“It is also for the first time – since the year of 1957 when the state of Israel began to compete at the Deaflympic Games – Summer or Winter – its athlete won a Deaflympic gold medal!”
