Dorin Edri was born as a deaf child in Kiryat Shmona. At the age of 18, she first encountered the word “transvestite” and soon began a process of sex change. A chance meeting with a stylist made her the most interesting model of the moment. Her father still insists on calling her Dor but it does not bother her to pursue her dreams – to be a woman to the end and then become a famous fashion designer
I have not seen in my deafness a difficulty because I have been coping with this from the day I was born, I do not feel limited, but I remember the period of study mainly as a war of survival,” says Dorin Edri. There were children who imitated my mother, and beyond laughing at the physical limitation, they also called me a gay man. ”
Edri, 24, was born and raised in Kiryat Shmona as a hard-of-hearing child named Dor, a father of a military industry employee and a mother of a domestic worker. Her parents, sister and older siblings are completely deaf. Her hearing aid is connected to a transparent strip that looks like a headset, which blurs the deafness marks and makes her look vocal, as she is. At her meeting in the cafe, she arrives on a motorized scooter, wearing high-heeled shoes, and meticulous Afro hair in her head. The locals do not remain indifferent and turn to the impressive young woman with the exotic look.
“From a very young age, I had a visual idea of how I was supposed to look, and I knew that I was not a gay but a trans woman, only when I first came to Tel Aviv with my brother who moved to the big city and experienced A little bit of the night life, I opened my eyes. ”

When did you realize you wanted to be a woman?
“I always knew that I was a girl, and at the age of 4 I wore my sister’s dress for the first time, and I loved playing Barbie, and at the age of 10 my mother decided it was not normal and she consulted with a family friend about what to do. It’s really a childhood trauma, it turned me into an introverted, closed and shy child, I was trapped in a body that was not right for me, and I felt something was wrong with me. ”
When Edri was 18, she received an exemption from military service, but decided to volunteer. She served in the Kirya and moved to Florentin in southern Tel Aviv, which brought her closer to realizing her gender identity. “At the age of 18 I met a transgender who told me about the process, and before that I thought it was an operation that cost millions and that it can not be done in Israel,” she says. “She was the spouse of my book and when she saw me she immediately caught on, felt me, probably written on my forehead, she explained to me about the surgery and the hormones that grow her chest.” I got home and did a straight Google: ‘How to be a shemale.’ I did not know”.
And then you decided to go through the process?
“I was so depressed that I tried to commit suicide, and a close friend recommended that I tell the family, so I wrote my sister a very personal letter, and to my surprise, she replied, ‘I waited for you to tell, it was the most transparent.’ Then I told my brother and his wife, I updated my mother in a video call in the middle of the night, but she asked me not to tell my father, I deleted my pictures in Instagram as a man and started dripping modeling pictures. How did you deal with the disengagement?
“My mother told me that the house was falling apart, and I told them both that it was not an option, and at one of the family dinners, my cousin showed him a picture of me. We will be in 2018. Two weeks later I received a message from him in Watsap, and he came to visit me in Tel Aviv, and since then, when I come to visit the parents in Kiryat Shmona, I walk proudly in the center of the city with all my eyes on me. We’re also in touch with Japan. ”
Edri has been undergoing a sex change for a year now, and at the same time she has begun to take the first steps in fashion. Recently Adri was offered to be photographed for an international brand that he is not allowed to reveal his name. “The photographer who approached me with the proposal said that I represent the ideal of Israeli beauty for them. At the same time, she began filming for a documentary about her life. “It is a project that is still in diapers, but we have already received funding from a respectable television platform,” she adds. In the future, she plans to participate in the Miss Trance 2019 competition, save money and fulfill her great dream, sex reassignment surgery that will complete her transformation into a physical woman.
What are the steps in the process?
“The family doctor referred me to a lengthy psychological process to make sure that I was mentally prepared, and after seven months I underwent endocrine tests, which I diagnosed as underweight, and I began to take three hormones a day later, Chic, maybe I’ll add 40 CC, that’s solid. ”

What about full sex change?
“There is an economic interest, it can be done through the HMO, but there is not much experience here, but in Thailand, there are experts in organ surgery, and such an operation can cost NIS 35,000, so they can analyze an orgasm. How did you get accepted in the transgender community?

The Miss Universe contest that took place this month in Bangkok was the first transgender candidate. What is your professional direction?
