Gary Meyer, 43 years old, grew up in Illinois, received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. His bachelors was in Accounting and masters degree in Human Resources training. He is married to Kathy Dollinger and they have two children, Ashley 14 and Jonathon 10.

Meyer founded DHH Insurance Agency to serve the Deaf and hard of hearing community. Gary has over thirteen years of professional experience working for several major insurance carriers.

DHH Insurance Agency was active in the development of SAFECO’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services; the agency continues to be a leader in this specialized area.

Q: Why did you dream to start an insurance agency catering to the Deaf and hard of hearing community?
I have been in the insurance business for fourteen year, as an accountant, Sales and Marketing. With all of these experiences, I have been want to get into my own business and this opportunity came up after my four years as marketing representative for SAFECO and they offer to help me start up my own agency.

Q: What does the agency specialize in?
All kind of insurance from Personal Lines, Auto, Home, RV and Business/nonprofit agencies as well as target to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Q: What is the goal of the agency?
Like to see the agency to offer products and services in twenty states, bring in more Deaf and hard of hearing people to work for the agency to give them opportunity as well. Over time, I have received twenty plus resumes from Deaf who want to work for me. Right now, I have two working for me. Sales Representative and Internet Marketing specialist. I would like to hire ten to fifteen deaf employees, to set up offices in other major cities where there are large deaf and hard of hearing community.

Q: How does DHH Insurance agency differ from the other agencies?
We work with insurance companies to bring the products and services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. We bring their products and services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community by making us fully accessible with TTYs. All of our contact are both TTY and Internet.

Q: What has the impact of DHH Insurance been and on who?
Both Insurance companies to know we can deliver their products to the Deaf and hard of hearing community and for the Deaf and hard of hearing community to provide them with the best rates and services.

Q: How many people does DHH serve?
We have over 500 customers since we started last year. We are licensed in the following states/provinces: New York. Pending licenses in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Illinois.
