New Five-Year Jewish Calendar Is Available

Calendar

Following the success of its original calendar mailing in 1996, the Jewish Deaf Community Center has issued its second Five-Year Jewish Calendar to make sure that Deaf Community Leaders avoid planning its events during major Jewish Holidays.

JDCC mailed Five-Year Jewish Calendars to two thousand organizations and Community Leaders in the Deaf and hard of hearing community nationally during the end of January. This two-color Calendar for the 2001-2005 years is imprinted on write-on memo boards with magnetic backing. Although there are many Jewish Holidays during the year, the Calendar lists the most important six holidays: Passover, Shavuot, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Shemini Atzeret.

The idea came when JDCC founder Sharon Ann Dror noted certain incidents that indicated lack of respect for Jewish Holidays. In contacting organizers of these events, she realized that many of them were ignorant or unaware of the conflict or importance of certain Jewish holidays. “We hope that the Five-Year Calendar continues to remind Deaf organizations to plan their conferences, tournaments, conventions, performances or events so that it does not conflict with either of these six major Jewish holidays,” Dror says, “this would enable Jewish Deaf people to participate in services or be with their families and friends.”

Copies of this updated Five-Year Jewish Calendar is available for $5.00 each (plus $2.95 postage) through JDCC, 507 Bethany Road, Burbank, CA 91504. Orders can also be faxed to 818/845-9936 or e-mail [email protected].
