Teens Observe Yom Kippur and Sukkot

The Los Angeles Teen Havurah had a full and enriching September. They are off to a good and busy New Year.

Their first activity was a Yom Kippur program designed especially for teens in conjunction with the Jewish Deaf Community Center. The program was a combination of worship services jointly with JDCC and discussions among the teens and their counselors. So exciting and interesting were all the activities that fasting was almost easy.

On Saturday, September 24, the teens joined JDCC again for an Israeli buffet in the sukkah. Afterwards they went to Brad Cohen's home for an allnighter, followed by a wonderful Sunday morning brunch in the sukkah.

Activities for October include a fund raiser at the Sports Arena, and another all-righter and trip to Knotts Berry Farm.

Counselors for the Teen Havurah are Melanie Chaplick, Lauren Abbott and Eric Posner - all students at C.S.U.N.

Sukkah Dinner

We had originally planned to have Thai dinner in the Sukkah, but the owners of Touch of Thai, the Guenouns has closed down so there was no Thai dinner. Instead, we had an Israeli buffet. We faxed flyers to 20 people and mailed 20 via first class due to short notice. 32 people came! I do have bright news - The Guenouns will be opening a new kosher Thai restaurant sometime in October at a new location, and has promised me we will experience their Kosher Thai cuisine. The new date for International Kosher Dinner will be on December 10th, Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. Speaking of fax machines, if you have one, please give us your number so we can add your name to the fax list! No charge.

My Jewish Discovery Museum

The September 25th date has been postponed to December 11, 1994 from 12:30 to 2:30. We postponed it for two reasons: Temple Beth Solomon started their first day of Sunday School on this day, and we wanted to give these kids this opportunity. Secondly, NCSY/Our Way of L.A. had a bunch so to avoid conflict, the new date is after Sunday School, and just before their winter break. So you still have a chance to make your reservations. Deadline is November 15th.
