Letters to the Editor

Dear Readers,

We all wish you a very happy healthy new year! L Shana tovah!

As we inscribe a new year, what does the future hold for JDCC? Your personal life? Business? Its time to sit down and look back what we have done, accomplished in the past year. What would we have done differently if we could change it?

I do know that I wish we had JDCC's High Holidays services scheduled this year because we have been receiving e-mails and calls asking for information on services in the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, at this time, I do not know of any. Where will I celebrate? I will be hosting my own private services with friends. It's time for people to realize that we cannot simply take things for granted that someone will be 'taking care of their needs.' Its time to offer your help and say here I am and what can I do to help to ensure that JDCC does not cancel their services again. We all have a busy life, believe it or not I have my own life too. JDCC News is a time consuming project and people have come to rely on it to get Jewish Education by reading and learning features on Judaism on all topics from A to Z, learn more about their common Jewish deaf leaders, news in the Jewish Deaf Community, and much more. We are the only national Jewish Deaf publication printed six times a year. There are similar Temple or Club membership newsletter. But JDCC does not charge any membership fee. The only charge is JDCC subscription dues.

It's a rewarding when we receive subscription renewals or new subscriptions knowing that people want to read JDCC News and that our time is appreciated. When they also include a donation to help out with JDCC finances, we are gratefully. Whether the donation is from a person who is far or near, whether he or she has time to help out in person, making contributions is a way of acknowledging that we are here and reaching people of all kinds! Thanks again for all!

May We Be Sealed With A New Year!

Shalom!

I am an Interpreter in the state of Idaho and would like to learn The Israel Sign Language. I went to Israel last year and met a deaf family and some deaf kids. I have taken Hebrew for almost 2 years. And plan to go back. I am in college to learn other languages. Any help I could get on where to buy books or videos would be very much appreciated. Toda Roba.

My name is Dara Hauptman and I recently attended the wonderful play "Oliver" performed at Deaf West Theatre. I am currently a student at CSUN and have just finished my sophomore year. I am a deaf studies major and learning sign language. I saw your ad in the program for the play and would love some more information. Thank you so much.

I would be interested in hearing from any of the members of the Hebrew Association of the Deaf in Philadelphia. My parents were members for many years and possibly even since its founding. I would love to hear some news about the group and its members.

Hello, I have worked and studied with the deaf all of my 66 years. The deaf are very courageous and are to be commended. Like the minorities they have had their share of hardships. I would love to hear from any who are deaf.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the fine article on my brother, Bob Stein in the July/August issue. Bob had passed away on July 9th. It was great seeing his hard work and dedication being recognized by the deaf community. He is missed by his family and I will cherished this article knowing he had been proud of his accomplishments and his family. Thank you,

Eric Stein
