Shalom!! I am here to share my experience with you about Israel. First of all, I want to say it will not be easy to describe my trip because I had the most incredible, amazing and overwhelming experience in Israel. I grew up in San Leandro just a few blocks from the recently reopened Bal Theater on E. 14th Street. Interpreter’s Corner

inter2My apologies to the readers for the absence of this column over the past few months/issues. My move from Pennsylvania to Maryland to start my new job was quite hectic.

Many people have been asking for a report on the "First National Conference on Deaf Participation and Interpreting in Judaic Settings" held this past July in Columbus, OH. I will try to give a brief synopsis.

Arlyn Meyerson was born deaf and grew up in Detroit, MI where his father owned a restaurant business. When Arlyn was 14 years old, he started working for his father during wartime, for it was difficult to find restaurant help during that time. Arlyn started working as a busboy and cashier to help out, which is how he gained experience from the bottom to the top. During the same time period, he also worked for Ford and Lincoln Motor Companies, and Kaiser-Frazer. After graduating from Wilbur Wright High School he trained to be a draftsman, and married his wife, Hester Wayner, who is hard of hearing. The two have five children.
