JDSR Update

We would like to thank Sharon Dror and her staff for continuing their JDCC issues and sharing news about the Jewish deaf and hard of hearing people worldwide.

Our program the JDSR, which stands for Jewish Deaf Singles Registry is not just for the singles including the divorced and widowed. As a matter of fact, sometimes we do welcome Jewish married adults to some of our programs. Past highlights were the first JDSR retreat in Silver Spring, MD in September 2000 and the first JDSR trip to Israel in August 2006.

We are pleased to announce that we will have a major program on March 19-22, 2009 in the Boston area (MA) a retreat open to all Jewish deaf and hard of hearing singles nationwide and worldwide. This is the first time we are having this program in the Boston area. It has good transportation: airport (Logan), train (Amtrak), and bus. We will have our own bus from NYC to the Boston area round trip and also to take us around to different sites all day Friday and an outing on Saturday night. There are three options for accommodation: hotel (separate charge), housing (no charge), or your own arrangement. The hotel has many amenities and allows up to four people per room. We have asked to book some rooms for our group, and they will be available on a "first signed up-first served"basis. Meals and snacks will be provided from late Thursday through Sunday brunch. Workshops and activities are included.

We have received inquiries about running local programs in such areas as Denver, Los Angeles, etc but this may be possible only if we know there is a large number of Jewish deaf and hard of hearing people who would attend the program, and also have help from the local people to run the program. Even if there is one or few Jewish deaf or hard of hearing people in one area, please register with JDSR (which has personal ads, ID#, correspondence, newsletter, etc.). If we do not hear from you, we would not know about you. Filling out an application is part of the process. You can also help us by talking to any deaf singles, who may not be aware of the programs and encourage them to register with JDSR. Although we are sponsored by the Orthodox Union we are open to Jewish Deaf /Hard of Hearing singles—whether Orthodox or Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative or non affiliated. We also appreciate donations for scholarships to help singles attend programs.

Early Bird deadline: February 18
Final registration deadline: March 11
No at-door registrations are accepted.
