Letters to the Editor

Dear Readers,

Effective immediately, there will be no July/August issue. I find it very difficult to do an issue when I have my three children home from school full time and we are busy doing our family commitments.

The July/August issue will be combined with this September/October issue.

There are deaf events that still conflict with the Jewish holidays.

The Deaf Seniors of America's 2007 conference is being held during Passover which poses a problem for those that observe the eight-day Passover holiday especially with the food and traveling restrictions. It is publicized that the 2007 DSA Conference, including the pre-conference events is from April 9th to 15th whereas Passover is from April 3rd to 10th.

During the first two days and the last two days during of the eight-day duration of Passover holiday, observants do not drive, use electricity, and travel on these days.

Adding a kosher menu will not be the solution because its Kosher for Passover food that needs to be considered and can be very costly.

We would like to ask the Deaf Seniors of America to consider a motion that all regional, state and national conference planners avoid scheduling their events during the three major Jewish holidays (Two Days of Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and Eight Days of Passover) so as to respect the Jewish observants.

I have a question for you all readers. Have you ever taken Hebrew as a foreign language in high school or college? How did you learn through a sign language interpreter? I would love to hear about your experience.

I hope to see you all at JDCC"s High Holiday Services. We have revived our Yom Kippur services as the last one was in 1999. Please come and welcome our guest, Erick Posner. Thanks to Erick for offering to lead both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services for JDCC.

Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy new year.

L 'Shana Tovah
