Israel Deaf Chess BlogPosted on 14/10/2010 by deafchessir
Yesterday, October 13, 2010, was a historic day for the city of Or Yehuda and State of Israel: the Municipalty of Or Yehuda with its Mayor David Yosef along with the Israel Deaf Chess Council organized a very unique event – the National Chess Championship for the Deaf-Blind People!
6 deaf-blind players from different cities of the country demonstrated their skills in the world’s most ancient game of the chess.
Yuri Usherov of Kiriat Am, by wining all his matches against 5 opponents, won the championship title. Yuri’s brother, Igor Usherov, a resident of Haifa, came in second, while Or Yehuda’s Zeev Musheev finished in the third place.
It should also be noted that the state of Israel has probably become the first and only country in the world to organize such an unique chess event involving a very special human beings: chess players who can not hear, speak and see.
The next major tournament – the Israel Team Chess Championship for the Deaf – will be organized by the Municipalty of Rishon le Zion and the City Chess Club of Rishon le Zion and it will take place next Saturday, October 23, 2010, in Rishon le Zion.Source: http://deafchessisr.wordpress.com/
